Alana-Organ Donation

When Alana Williams passed away, the world felt impossibly small and unbearably quiet. No parent imagines finding meaning in that kind of loss. And yet, in the midst of heartbreak, Alana gave gifts that continue to ripple outward in ways that are still being discovered.

On the evening Alana lost her life, both of her parents received a call from the donation center. During that call, they were told that Alana had chosen to be an organ and tissue donor, a decision she had made herself and marked on her driver’s license. In a moment of overwhelming grief, the representatives who reached out were kind, gentle, and deeply comforting. They spoke with compassion and treated Alana with dignity, offering reassurance during one of the darkest moments a family can face.

Through CORE, the Center for Organ Recovery and Education serving Pennsylvania and West Virginia, Alana was able to donate tissue, including corneas and ligament tissue. Because of her generosity, lives did not simply continue. They changed.

The family has been humbled to receive letters from people whose lives were touched directly by Alana’s donations. One letter came from an individual who regained their vision after receiving her corneas. To know that someone is now able to see the world clearly because of Alana’s final act of kindness is something words can hardly capture.

Another letter came from the parents of a ninth grade boy who received ligament tissue. Because of that gift, he was able to return to playing sports. A child running, competing, and laughing with teammates, doing what children are meant to do. Alana helped make that possible.

These are only the stories that have been shared. Many recipients choose privacy, and that choice is deeply respected. There are more people walking, seeing, healing, and living fuller lives because of Alana, even if their names are never known.

That knowledge does not erase the grief. It never could. But it places something gentle alongside it. A reminder that Alana’s heart for others did not end when her life did. It simply found new ways to move through the world.

Alana Grace’s Galloping Foundation exists to honor who Alana was. Kind. Compassionate. Giving. Her decision to be a donor reflects the same spirit that guides this foundation. The belief that even in the hardest moments, love can still be passed forward.

The family remains deeply grateful to CORE for the care, dignity, and compassion shown to Alana and to them, and for the life changing work CORE does every day.

Alana’s story continues. In the sight restored. In the steps taken. In the games played. In every life quietly made better because she chose to give.

And that is a legacy that keeps galloping on.
